The
Facebook security and privacy team discovered that some users'
passwords were stored in readable format within the company's internal
storage system.
As a result, millions of Facebook Lite, Facebook and Instagram users will receive a logo from the company if their passwords are displayed.
The Facebook site itself confirmed this through a publication on its official blog . Some user passwords were stored in text files in the company's data storage systems without any type of encryption or techniques that obscured the key text.
Facebook ensures that the passwords were never visible to people outside of Facebook, and that no evidence was found that someone in the team had used them improperly.
However, Facebook recommends the following steps to protect your account:
1. Change your password in the Facebook and Instagram settings menu, and avoid using the same password for both accounts.
2. Choose a complex password with different letters, numbers, and letters.
3. Activate 2-step verification to add another layer of security to your account.
